TYPE setting
The TYPE setting on a SpaNET controller is vital for pump configuration, heating & touchpad functionality. When the TYPE value is set incorrectly it will impact the function of your spa dramatically. Common symptoms are pump buttons functions have changed or are controlling different pumps/blower compared to normal, spa overheating & jet pumps running when they shouldn’t.
The TYPE value must be set to match your Spa control model. Eg. If you have an SV Mini 2 controller the correct TYPE setting is SM2.
The TYPE vaule may unexpectedly change if the spa is subject to a power event such as a low mains voltage brownout, power outage or extreme weather conditions that put extra load on the electricity grid. The TYPE value must also be checked if your controller circuit board has been replaced.
To change the TYPE value on any SpaNET controller will require you to access the Factory menu. Accessing Factory menu will differ depending on which touchpad your spa is fitted with. Refer to below links which describe how to view & edit the TYPE value on each SpaNET touchpad.
Changing TYPE with an SV touchpad (SV2T / SV3T / SV4T)
Steps
- Firstly, enter the factory menu by pressing and holding Pump B
, Air Blower 
and Water Clean 
buttons until V.PMP or bRNd is displayed. - Press
to navigate through the menu list until TYPE is displayed on the screen. - Press
to view the current TYPE value. - Press or
to adjust the setting until your controller model TYPE is displayed (eg. SV Mini 2 = SM2; SV3-VH = SV3 ect.) - Press to confirm setting. The Screen will once again display TYPE
- Press to navigate through the menu until bOOT appears on the screen.
- Press to reboot the controller. The screen may go blank after the primming cycle when rebooting the controller. In this instance, you’ll need to turn the power off from the power source, then back on again after 10 seconds.
Now that you’ve changed the TYPE value to match your controller model, we also recommend checking both the Element count (ELMT) & Load shed (L.SHd) setting too.
- Again, enter the factory menu by pressing and holding Pump B , Air Blower and Water Clean buttons until V.PMP or bRNd is displayed.
- Press to navigate through the menu list until ELMT is displayed on the screen.
- Press to view the current element count value.
- Press or to adjust the value to 2 (as version 2 SV controllers have two elements inside the heater tube).
- Press to confirm setting. The Screen will once again display ELMT.
Now, enter the advanced menu by pressing and holding the Air Blower and Water Clean buttons until C.LMT is displayed ont he screen.
- Press once to navigate through the menu list until L.SHd is displayed on the screen.
- Press to view the Load Shed count.
- Press or to adjust the value to 3. Screen should display 3 LS
- Press to confirm setting. The Screen will once again display L.SHd.
The process is now complete. The screen will time out and show water temperature after 10 seconds.
Steps

- Press to navigate through the menu list until TYPE is displayed on the screen.
- Press to view the current TYPE value.
- Press or to adjust the setting until your controller model TYPE is displayed (eg. SV Mini 2 = SM2; SV3-VH = SV3 ect.)
- Press to confirm setting. The Screen will once again display TYPE
- Press to navigate through the menu until bOOT appears on the screen.
- Press to reboot the controller. The screen may go blank after the primming cycle when rebooting the controller. In this instance, you’ll need to turn the power off from the power source, then back on again after 10 seconds.
Important note: Ghost Buttons
Depending on your spa model, the buttons circled blue on this diagram may or may not be visibly printed on your touch pad. When absent, these are referred to as ‘ghost buttons’ which are still pressable and used to access back-end menus.

buttons until V.PMP or bRNd is displayed. - Press to navigate through the menu list until TYPE is displayed on the screen.
- Press to view the current TYPE value.
- Press to adjust the setting to SM2 (all Alpine SV Smart touchpads are fitted to SV Mini 2 controllers)
- Press to confirm setting. The Screen will once again display TYPE
- Press to navigate through the menu until bOOT appears on the screen.
- Press to reboot the controller. The screen may go blank after the primming cycle when rebooting the controller. In this instance, you’ll need to turn the power off from the power source, then back on again after 10 seconds.
Steps
- Enter the Settings menu by pressing the settings
button in the bottom left-hand corner. - Press the down arrow
button to scroll to the very bottom & select the advanced menu button. You’ll be prompted to enter a pin code. The pin number is 14863, then press ENTER.
- Once in the Advanced menu use down button to scroll to the very bottom & select FACT Factory option menu (pin required). You’ll be prompted to enter a pin code. The pin code is 74269, then press ENTER.
- Press the back
button once to return to the Factory Menu, then press the down arrow button to scroll to the bottom of the menu. - Select BOOT Reboot controller. Then press the BOOT button and wait for the screen to display SAVED.
Now that you’ve changed the TYPE value to match your controller model, if you have an SV2, SV3 or SV4 we also recommend checking both the Element count (ELMT) & Load shed (LSHD) settings too.
- Press the back button in the top right corner once to return to the Factory menu, then press the up arrow
button to scroll up and select ELMT element count. Use the plus (+) button to change the value to TWIN. Then press SAVE and wait for the screen to display SAVED
Now, press the back button twice until you’re back in the Advanced menu.
- Press the button to navigate to the top of the advanced menu, then select LSHD Load shed. Use the plus (+) button until 3 Loads is displayed. Then press SAVE and wait for the screen to display SAVED.
